AUTOMATED HARDNESS TEST RIG – USER MANUAL

1. INTRODUCTION

The Automated Hardness Test Rig measures the change in thickness of a friction lining material when subjected to load and temperature.
It automatically controls load, heating, timing, and displacement measurement for consistent and repeatable results.


2. SYSTEM OVERVIEW

  • Structure: C-frame with heated top and bottom indenters

  • Control: PLC-based panel with digital displays

  • Sensors: Load cell, LVDT, and J-type thermocouples

  • Loading: Pneumatic cylinders (max 3500 kg)

  • Measurement: Automatic deflection and temperature display

4. OPERATION PROCEDURE

Setup

  1. Ensure main RCCB and ROTO switch are ON.

  2. Set Auto/Manual mode to Manual.

  3. Adjust preload and set load regulators as per requirement.

  4. Switch Heater ON and allow to reach set temperature (typically 140°C).

Testing

  1. Place specimen between indenters.

  2. Apply preload and reset displacement gauge.

  3. Switch to Auto mode, press Cycle Start (default timer: 60 sec).

  4. System applies load, holds, and releases automatically.

  5. Record final deflection value from display.

  6. Press Release Preload, then remove the sample.

Post-Test

  • Reset buzzer and Twix controller.

  • Turn off heaters after use.
